The P.I.E. Model was created through a comprehensive literature and website review, utilizing prominent theories and teaching resources to develop a practical toolkit of recommendations for the design of inclusive and motivational online learning environments.
There are three parts to the P.I.E. Model: People, Instruction and Environment. The balance between the three leads to relevant and personalized online learning experiences. For People there are three components: teacher, student, and the online community that they create. For Instruction we look at inclusion and differentiation, the instructional design, and evaluation and feedback. For Environment we look at the schedule, user interface and communication strategies.
The balance between People and Instruction can be thought of as Virtual Andragogy, between People and Environment it’s how we Virtually Deliver our lessons, and between Instruction and Environment it’s our Virtual Practice. Here is a diagram of the model:
